Surface Decoration Workshop: Sunday Jan 25, 1-4 pm

CA$95.00

Join me in my studio to talk about the ceramic surface: paper that fights back! Make surfaces that are sharp, noisy, precise, soft, embellished, defined, layered, dynamic. This is the “everything but underglaze” workshop - we’ll play with ceramic inks, chalks, pencils, crayons, waxes and oxides. I have lots to share too about how to get started drawing, sourcing inspiration and images, developing a visual voice.

Note no firing is included. This is primarily a demo workshop with an opportunity to play with new materials. Bring 2-3 pieces of bisqueware in any clay of your choosing. You’ll leave with a sample of black ceramic ink, a recipe handout and a bouquet of new approaches to finishing your pots.

This workshop is on Sunday, January 25th 2025 from 1-4 pm at 975 Vernon Drive in Vancouver (the Mergatroid building).

We're on the 2nd floor of an old building with no elevator so unfortunately this workshop is not wheelchair accessible. If there are other accessibility needs I can assist with please get it in touch! Masks are more than welcome and a HEPA air purifier will be running at all times.

Learn tips and tricks for hand-modelling fungi, moss, slime molds and worms; using found objects as texture tools, and sculpting from nature . No clay experience needed for this play-based, relaxed artmaking exploration. Think kids’ art class but for adults. Use your hands and some magic dirt to think through themes of natural history and cycles of decay and growth. Have a cup of tea and get your hands in some earth :)
